(Chapter -1V)

Change of Name

All three levels called Commission now-

DDRC. District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission

SCDRC State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission

NCDRC.National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission

Number of Members in Commissions:

·         District level Commission -at least three, one woman.

·         State level Commission – minimum four, one woman.

·         National level Commission – minimum 15 ,one woman and one shall be  from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Class and minority communities

Age of Members

·         District level Members -35 years

·         State level Members -40 years

·         National level Members -45 years

Change in Appointment Procedure of Members

·         For District-State Public Service Commission

·         For State Commission –High Court judge duly nominated by the chief justice of the State, Secretary law ,Sec. Consumer affairs of the state

·         Chief Justice of India Nominates SC Judge –Ministry of &Ministry of Consumer Affairs Secretatry form committee

Pecuniary jurisdiction enhanced

District commission -50 Lakh  

State commission-   2 crore

National commission –above two crore

Changes in staff cadre

Transfer of staff / officers to other ministries hamper Consumer Forum/Commission work during earlier Act 1986. In the new act Staff as well as officers shall work under the supervision of Presidents of respective Commissions

 

Arrangements of Consumer commissions

(NCDRC Regulations 2020

3(1)Consumer commission not a regular court,depict distinct from a court

3(2) Dais may not be kept more than 30 centimetre in height than the place earmarked for parties to occupy

3(3) President and members should use the same type of chairs in the same level with no high backs

Dress code

4.!)Simple & sober dress

4. !!)No jeansor tea shirt

4.!!!) As prescribed in civil courts
